The impact of solids retention time on Greenhouse Gases Emissions from biological wastewater treatment processes

چکیده

Abstract Biological wastewater treatment is linked to direct and indirect greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions, thus new approaches on design operation of plants (WWTPs) must be adopted aiming towards GHGs emissions’ mitigation. This study evaluates the impact solids retention time (SRT) (CO 2 N O) emissions activated sludge (AS) processes with nutrients removal operating at 10, 30 180 days SRT. The SRT represents complete AS process (CRAS), which introduces a novel WWTP approach for excess reduction. evaluation performance via ASDM model Bridle methodology showed that total O increased together increasing dissolved oxygen CRAS achieved 97,4% 96,2% reduction compared 10 d respectively, in being respectively higher by 20,0% 12,2%. lower compensate emissions. At high influent loads, balance tilts favour due management quantities, rendering more sustainable choice.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Wastewater Treatment System

Besides its great potential in controlling water pollution from different sources, waste water treatment system generates significant amount of greenhouse gases. Hence, reducing the emission of greenhouse gases from the wastewater treatment plants is the major concern. The correct understanding and estimation of the greenhouse gases emitted from different points of the plan is essential to tack...

Nitrous oxide emissions from wastewater treatment processes.

Nitrous oxide (N(2)O) emissions from wastewater treatment plants vary substantially between plants, ranging from negligible to substantial (a few per cent of the total nitrogen load), probably because of different designs and operational conditions. In general, plants that achieve high levels of nitrogen removal emit less N(2)O, indicating that no compromise is required between high water quali...

Estimation of greenhouse gases emissions from urban traffic: a case study of Hamadan city

Background and Objective: Transportation sector generates the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 and CH4) which causes global warming. “Stop-and-go” driving and congested traffic flow results in a decrease in average car speeds, an increase in traffic incidents, and finally escalates GHGs emissions. Hence, congestion is directly related to carbon emissions. The objective of this stu...

Emissions of greenhouse gases from a North American megacity

[1] Atmospheric column abundances of carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) have been measured above the South Coast air basin (SCB), a densely populated urban region of Southern California, USA, which includes Los Angeles and the surrounding suburbs. Large diurnal variations in CO and CH4 are observed which correlate well with those in CO2. Weaker cor...
